Two members of the corporate team at EVRAZ visited the Urban Promise School today to present a check to our school for a literacy initiative that their company is supporting in various sites.
Antoine Oakley and Karl Miller presented the check to our 1st grade class. The 1st grade teacher, Ms. Heath, rides the train every day from New Jersey. Mr. Miller rides the same train from Philadelphia. They met and began talking about the need for students to have good books to read that are on their grade level.
When a child learns to love reading in their early years, it is a strong foundation for academic success. Mr. Miller took time to read a book to the students before returning to work. He added notes of interest to the story which held the rapt attention of his audience.
