Girls on the Run 2015

In a sea of pink and green UrbanPromise School girls, staff, and parents joined in last Saturday’s Girls on the Run Race.  The girls had big smiles after running the 5k, knowing they had completed something big.

For months, students and teachers spent a couple of afternoons a week walking and running around the main office.  Ten laps around is a mile.  Coaches Anna and Meka (better known as our 3rd/4th grade and Pre-K teachers) spent time practicing with the girls, talking about preparing their bodies for the race, and praying for health and well-being throughout the experience.  There is something in the training that is bigger than the race.

IMG_2105Instantaneous gratification does not allow us to reach our full potential.  With effort and hard work we can accomplish more than we can by winging it.  One student, who has competed for 3 years, had a personal goal to finish in under an hour.  This year, for the first time, she accomplished that goal!  Along the way, the girls and adult were able to build relationships.  They ran the race together.  What an amazing reminder of the power of community.

We are so proud of all of our girls!
