Goal: $75,000

Paddle for Promise is returning to Wilmington on Saturday, July 11th! Our staff, volunteers, friends, and family will be paddling the Christina River for 8 miles, finishing in downtown Wilmington. Executive Director, Rob Prestowitz, will be leading the way alongside teams from local churches and business in 2-person canoes and single-person kayaks. We are paddling to raise funds for our StreetLeaders®job training program.

UrbanPromise Wilmington’s StreetLeader program is a job-training program for teens that live in Wilmington, DE.  They have the opportunity to gain a sense of confidence, independence, responsibility, accountability, understanding how to work with different people, how to be a part of a team, improved communication skills, and step into roles that can be challenging.  They are able to develop useful skills such as preparation, time management, healthy work habits, and conflict resolution.  In addition to job training, StreetLeaders participate in mentorship, tutoring, and other productive activities that are set up just for them with the community.  All of this together makes our StreetLeader program one of UPW’s most impactful programs.

This summer, teens are taking on Zoom Summer Camp.  They are teaching kids activities they enjoy, and are learning how to engage with people through a screen (something teachers across the country are learning).  While it may not seem as exciting as fun and high-energy as our regular summer camp, one teen described it as ‘a great way to connect with our campers and still be a family and a community in Christ.’
