    Camp Hope Welcomes Special Guest

Campers looked with confused faces, as they passed Office Robbins to enter the sanctuary in the middle of camp.  Faces showed a mix of ‘I think I know him’ and ‘why is there a policeman in here?’  When Mr. Joel (camp director) welcomed WorkTeam member, and special guest, Mr. Marty, the faces went straight to eyes wide opened and mouths dropped.  The kids knew Mr.

    Camp Victory Oozes Talent

The talent-filled and talent-less people of Camp Victory took to their own stage to showcase the moves they’re hiding up their selves.  Staff started by showing their “talents,” and then let the kids take a turn.  Acts included Miss Amazing and her Ventriloquist Smarty, singing while hula hooping, dancing, and some other acts that can’t be described by words. Lessons learned in the depths of the

What new interns do for a laugh…

One week, you’re being trained to work with kids and live in Wilmington.  The next… you’re putting food in your armpits or eating a sandwich made from food in a person’s armpit.  Its gross, but its true. Salima and Marie were 2 brave souls at Freedom who performed the “trucker skit.”  The kids were grossed, but they loved it!  Stay tuned for more interesting stories from our camps. *No

“All I wanted was for someone to hear me”

The vision of UrbanPromise is to “be a community in Christ” including all those who connect with our programs – children, youth, families, staff, interns, students, StreetLeaders, volunteers and supporters.  Read these comments from one of our Academy students about the importance of this community in his life. “Yesterday, I participated in the Urban Promise speech contest. I think everyone who had the courage to stand

    Celebrating StreetLeader Summer

This summer sees the departure of 10 StreetLeaders who have all been a part of the program since 2009 or earlier. It’s like losing a limb. They are going on to very exciting things: City Year Philadelphia, Del State University, Del Tech, Phil Art Inst to name a few. Ten students leaving means 10 new students. Moshea Seeney was the winner of this years rookie of

    Love Demonstrated

This summer has been a great summer. We had the largest group of interns staffing our five summer camps. These twenty individuals were the most servant hearted people I know. They worked for more than sixty hours a week with positive attitude and initiative to love the youth they met. On Sunday nights when we share where we have seen God during the previous week, I

    Camp Harmony – Feeling Blessed

Camp Harmony was so blessed this summer. We had a great location established, but two weeks before camp started the church told us they could no longer accommodate us. Through the efforts of prayer and our team leader, Pere Gaddis, Camp Harmony found a new location at The Episcopal Church of Saints Andrew and Matthew (SsAM). We were blessed with a large amount of indoor space,

Camp Promise – Shining Through Challenges

Praise the Lord! As some of you know, Camp Promise has been a bit nomadic ever since we were forced to leave our old location on 3rd Street. Although we don’t have a permanent place, God never ceases to amaze me by providing for us through hospitable church members willing to extend the love of Christ. This year Camp Promise has had amazing interns who came

    Camp Freedom Highlights

The preacher this morning told a joke that was both funny and true, “Life is like a roll of toilet paper, the closer you get to the end, the faster it goes.” That definitely summarizes our experience at Camp Freedom this summer. It just flew by and there was no way to stop it or slow it down. Over sixty children participated in high quality activities
