UrbanPromise On the Court

As the buzzer sounded I looked at the UrbanPromise 10 & under boy’s basketball team. Our eight players, dressed in purple, smiling from ear to ear, were celebrating with each other after their first game and first win of the season.

It is amazing to watch these boys compete. I believe it is every young boy’s dream to be able to fight for something. In my 4 years at UP, I have seen this fight in the kids come out in many negative ways during our programs. Instead of fighting against each other, this team is giving these boys an opportunity to fight for each other and play a game as hard as they can. It seems this is exactly what these boys wanted. We are excited for a season full of life lessons and overcoming obstacles. And of course, the smiles proved it can be a little fun too…

UrbanPromise has just initiated two new youth basketball teams. One is a 10 & under team coming out of the UP After School Programs, the other team is a 15 & under team comprised of youth we know from the neighborhoods of our city. Teams will be playing Monday and Friday evenings through the April 11th playoffs.
